SMS OVERVIEW

This chapter demonstrates why the SMS is vitally important to your operation and how your participation in the program makes a difference in the safety of you, your colleagues and your operation. 

SMS FUNDAMENTALS

This chapter discusses the importance of a strong safety culture and how the SMS is intricately involved in the growth and expansion of the operation and how you may apply the principles on a daily basis.

THE PILLARS OF THE SMS

This chapter includes safety policies and objectives and how the SMS assists the flight department to look inward and make the necessary safety changes that will positively impact the operation.

RISK MANAGEMENT AND HAZARDS

Safety risk management is a key component to lowering risks and making sound safety decisions. This chapter will detail the ways risk management is implemented and how the hazard reporting process is an essential part of lowering overall risk. Also discussed is the investigation process, risk analysis and the Five Whys method.

MONITORING THE SYSTEM

The SMS is an invaluable tool when fully implemented into the fabric of the operation. This chapter will give you insight on how the organization's safety objectives are monitored and maintained. You will learn about safety performance targets and indicators and how they play a significant role to keep your operation inline with your goals. Also, how continuous monitoring and the management of change process will detect safety outliers.

SMS DOCUMENTATION

The SMS training takes less than one hour to complete. It is based on ICAO Annex 19, ICAO Document 9859 and FAA Advisory Circular 120-92. You will be provided a certificate of completion at the end of the program.
